Education and Training

Education and Training is a vital enabler of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), aimed at equipping Kenyans with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to drive inclusive growth and national development. The Government is investing in expanding access to quality education from basic to tertiary levels, while aligning curricula with industry demands to better prepare learners for the world of work. Special emphasis is being placed on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), and digital skills development to nurture innovation, entrepreneurship, and employability among the youth. Teacher training, infrastructure upgrades, and the integration of ICT in learning are strengthening the delivery of education, particularly in underserved regions. By focusing on both academic excellence and practical skills, education and training under BETA ensures that Kenya builds a competitive, future-ready workforce capable of powering transformation across agriculture, manufacturing, services, and the creative economy.

Recruitment and Training of Teachers

The Government has demonstrated strong commitment to the recruitment and training of teachers as part of its broader education reforms under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). Recognizing that teachers are the backbone of quality learning, the Government is scaling up annual recruitment to bridge teacher shortages in both primary and secondary schools, while ensuring equitable deployment across all counties, including underserved regions. At the same time, continuous professional development programmes are being rolled out to strengthen teachers’ capacity in delivering the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), digital literacy, and modern pedagogical skills. Investment in teacher training colleges, mentorship initiatives, and partnerships with industry are also equipping educators to better prepare learners for future skills and job markets. Through these efforts, the Government is not only improving the quality of education but also creating dignified employment opportunities for thousands of teachers nationwide.
