Efficient transport networks are critical to unlocking markets, reducing logistics costs, and driving rural industrialisation. Under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), roads and transport infrastructure are being expanded to connect farmers, industries, and households to opportunities.
Constructed, upgraded, and rehabilitated 2,300 km of roads at a cost of KSh 283.8 billion ($2.2B).
Includes new roads, dualling projects, bridges, and interchanges to boost national and regional connectivity.
14 road projects launched in the North Eastern region, valued at KSh 57.2B.
Flagship: 740 km Isiolo–Wajir–Mandera corridor, including the El Wak–Rhamu upgrade, to enhance trade with Somalia and Ethiopia.
Migori County upgrades: Stella–Sibuoche–Gogo, Mapera–Rabuor, Kanyawanga–Dede roads, now nearing completion.
Kiambu–Thika Road upgrade (KSh 10.78B), dualling priority on 12 km Kiambu–Ngewa stretch.
Maai Mahiu–Suswa Road (41 km) under redesign for reliability during rainy seasons, serving Maasai Mara tourism.
Mombasa Gate Bridge (KSh 85B): Designs completed; construction to commence soon.
Chinese African Development Fund (KSh 36.3B) committed in Aug 2024 to complete 15 stalled projects (14 KeRRA, 1 KeNHA), covering 780 km.
Construction of BRT Line 2 along Thika Superhighway underway.
Backed by a KSh 7.74B ($60M) MCC threshold program to support low-emission buses and BRT infrastructure.

Implement the KeNHA 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, emphasizing modern construction standards, digital monitoring, and environmental safeguards.
Strengthen capacity of KeRRA, KURA, and KeNHA to manage 162,000 km of national and county roads more efficiently.
Reduce average travel time by 30% on key economic corridors.
Increase road sector job creation by 25%, especially for youth and women.
Lower the cost of transporting goods to support Kenya’s competitiveness as a regional logistics hub.
